Clark Kent
08 September 2008 @ 11:18 am
Because of the nature of the communities I play Clark in, I've been thinking of the best way to clarify my playing style so that no one gets offended or upset. I thought of editing the profile, but every time I did I came out sounding like an elitist jerk.

Maybe I still will, I don't know. Anyway, what follows are my thoughts about how I play Clark in the crazy world of livejournal. The idea is to make other players aware, so we can work together with a minimal amount of drama. I'm just here to have fun, like we all are.

On The Many Multiples
Currently, my Clark has no affiliated characters from his own universe. No Lois, no Jimmy, no Justice League, etc. When he meets people he recognizes, he'll think of them as versions from an alternate reality. My Superman is familiar with the multiverse. Clark, however, isn't. He'll get very confused and splutter a bit. Sorry!

Just to be clear, he'll recognize any version. So if Teri Hatcher Lois talks to him, he'll still recognize her as Lois.

On People That Look Like People He Knows, But Aren't
He won't mistake them. PB overlap happens, and as a player I'm deciding there's some quirk of reality around him that makes, say, Cyclops from the X-Men movie look different to him than Richard White (besides the visor, obviously). Just my preference, but I thought other players should be aware of it.

On Clark vs. Superman
When I use icons of Superman, it's Superman talking. When I use icons of Clark, it's Clark. I'm trying to keep his secret identity secret, so please respect that if your character knows who he is.

On Smallville
I don't particularly like Smallville. This is nothing against the people who play characters from that show, but it's just not my style, and I'm not a fan of the genre. I don't recognize any events of Smaillville as part of my Clark's canon, though he'll recognize the people the same as any other alternate universe people, so long as they actually exist in the comics.

On What Is Canon
Uh, I haven't really decided. My Clark is an amalgamation. He most certainly isn't from Earth-1 (or I guess Earth-2 or any defined Earth for that matter). I see the skeleton of his story as following the events of Superman, Superman II and the first chunk of Superman Returns (his return from Krypton to Kansas, and then to Metropolis, but without the Son of Superman stuff). I flesh that out with parts of the stories told in the comics. But only parts, because there are a lot of stories and the retconning gives me a headache.

On Various Verses
I don't like splitting verses for my characters, because I'm too lazy to keep track of all of that. What he does in [info]finestworlds will affect who he is in general, even though it's a separate community. For the time being, I think of him as a multi-reality wanderer. He's the same guy, but he travels to different worlds.

On Who He'll Interact With
Anyone. Just please remember that he has no established backstory with any characters not from the canon DCU. That doesn't mean I'm not happy to create relationships through roleplay, we may just have to work a little harder for it.

The only exception to this is someone that contacts me beforehand. Please feel free if you have an idea. It's my story that Superman's been wandering around various universes for awhile, so if you want him to have met your character, I'm sure we can set something up.

On Friending
Obviously, anyone that wants to can friend this journal. I won't friend back unless our characters have interacted, though. That's just my style, it's nothing personal. I also don't consider one response to be interaction. I mean a conversation or something like it.

On The Player
I'm a generally friendly and approachable person, despite how this might make me seem. Have an idea for a storyline? Want to play a character from his world? Think I suck? PM me.
